For the fourth year running the community came together for the Stellar House Fun Day.
On a sunny day at the start of August the park outside Stellar House in north Tottenham was full of various entertainments and stalls as residents from Stellar House and the surrounding area came out in force to support this free event organised by the local residents’ association.

SALB fun day

There was a bouncy castle, a smoothie-making bike, free massages, painting for children, sports activities, music and a barbecue while Haringey Council, Homes for Haringey, the police and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation all had stalls.

“It’s been amazing and we’ve had a great turnout,” said Helen Stone, chair of SALB (the residents’ association covering Stellar House, Altair Close, The Lindales and Bennetts Close). “There’s been a friendly, family atmosphere and it’s been so good to see so many people of different ages and quite a few new faces. Days like this are important for bringing people together and I’ll always hope to be doing this because it’s a celebration of our community.”

Painting

One of the busiest stalls was the one run by the local ward police officers. Young people could try on items of a police uniform and there were lots of useful freebies to take home including: smart water so you can DNA tag your property, home security devices for doors, and switches to set lights on and off in the house at different times.

“As dedicated police officers it’s important for us to come to events like this,” said local PC Nick Spratt. “Engaging with people, addressing their concerns and learning more about what’s going on in the area should be our primary function.”

“I’ve just come from having a free health check thanks to the Spurs Foundation,” said Angelica there with her son Lukas, aged six. “It’s a fantastic day and it’s a really nice way to meet my neighbours.”

“I’ve been painting which has been good fun,” said Lukas. “I’ve made some friends and I hope there are more days like this.”
